Mirada Medical showcases latest advancements in efficient and accurate radiotherapy imaging workflow and assessment at the 35th ESTRO Congress.

Mirada Medical showcases latest advancements in efficient and accurate radiotherapy imaging workflow and assessment at the 35th ESTRO Congress.

Oxford, United Kingdom, 28th April 2016: The number and types of images (CT, PET, MRI) used for modern protocols has significantly increased in the past years. This has created the daily challenge of precise and accurate alignment of the different images. “Mirada’s focus on image registration in the last decade has led to one of the most robust image alignment technologies in the industry.” said András Szentmiklóssy, Product Manager, radiotherapy solutions at Mirada Medical. “In addition, Mirada designed patented workflows for efficient multi-modality contouring transforming laborious delineation tasks.”

Having recently acquired the Mirada RTx solution for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, UK, Prof. Marcel Van Herk declared: “We have chosen Mirada as strategic partner to develop multimodality imaging solutions because of the quality of their software, allowing rapid translation of novel techniques into our clinic while also providing the possibility to efficiently integrate workflows for the different treatment techniques that are available at our site.”

Modern protocols such as IGRT, SBRT or VMAT also require thin-slice imaging to precisely target disease and spare healthy tissue, which has created a significant burden in manual contouring. While several vendors have introduced auto-contouring, Mirada is showcasing the only zero-click, truly automated multi-atlas contouring solution. The Mirada solution employs unique SMART (Scalable Multi-Atlas for Radiation Therapy) technology and relies on the proven Mirada image registration engine. It is designed to save time and improve consistency for initial contouring and adaptive re-contouring. Being vendor agnostic, it also integrates seamlessly into any Radiotherapy workflow.

Further, through the course of radiotherapy, patient anatomy may change. In addition, changes in the shape, size and position of targeted disease are likely. It is a daily challenge to assess whether the treatment plan needs to be updated to account for these changes. Mirada RTx turns the complex task of adaptive assessment into a rapid and accurate multi-timepoint comparison of images, structures and doses. With its unique zero-click SMART contouring solution Workflow Box, Mirada automates the previously laborious task of adaptive re-contouring.

“Technology is a major part of our treatment and workflow improvement strategy. We chose Mirada because their contouring solution allows us the flexibility to push boundaries in research whilst using robust workflows we can trust in a clinical setting as well. With growing patient numbers and treatment complexity, increasing efficiency and flexibility whilst improving quality and precision has become imperative.”  said Dr. Peter Remeijer from Dutch Cancer Institute Antoni Van Leeuwen NKI, Amsterdam.

Mirada Medical will showcase their latest solutions for radiotherapy including RTx and Workflow Box on their booth #2700 at the ESTRO 2016 Congress from the 29th of April to the 2nd of May in Torino, Italy.
