IT Support Engineer


Location: Oxford, UK

Contract: Fixed term 12 months

Hours: Full Time

Job Summary

We are seeking a self-motivated IT administrator to support our main Oxford site and remote staff across Europe. This important role involves maintaining Mirada’s hardware and software across all the departments in order to keep the staff working effectively.

The successful candidate will ideally have a background in IT support or systems administration. They will possess strong communication skills and be able to organise and drive their own work. This role will report to the SW Development Manager in Oxford and the IT Manager in the U.S and will work collaboratively with all staff

This is a varied role with great opportunity for learning about many different systems.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • IT Support of users in the Oxford office as well as remote users across the Europe region
  • IT Support and troubleshooting issues
  • Tracking hardware inventory of what equipment is being used
  • Tracking SW inventory of what is used/authorised across European users
  • Management of health status on HW (e.g. monitor available disk space, HW performance)
  • Keep software packages updated across computers
  • IT Security - monitor such items as anti-virus and windows update reports and such to keep environment secure
  • Upgrade workstation, laptops, etc as needed
  • Ordering HW/equipment for users
  • keep current hardware inventory and manage replacement schedule
  • Build hardware and install software the user will need for their day to day functions
  • Tracking of software license agreements and move licenses to new hardware as needed
  • Some out of office hours’ time required to perform HW/SW changes.


Essential Skills and Behaviours

  • Experience with computer hardware and OS. Desktop/servers primarily running Windows (7, 8, 10, server).
  • Experience of Microsoft Office Suite software packages integrated with Office365, can help others with usage and configuration issues
  • Experience with remote access support tools to provide remote support
  • General computer hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Positive attitude, able to work on a team and communicate clearly with those being worked with and supported
  • Attention to detail and ability to organise and manage information in a systematic way.
  • The ability to analyse and use initiative to solve technical challenges
  • Takes a methodical and structured approach to tasks
  • Eager and self-motivated to learn and assist others


Advantageous Skills and Behaviours

  • Knowledge of open source software packages, examples: MySQL, Proxmox, Debian OS, Freenas and willing to learn and research other packages
  • Software development (Java/C++/C#)
  • Capability with scripting languages (PERL, python)
  • Mac HW/OS experience.
  • Linux experience
